Advertisers have taken advantage of the space around the video to show their products. Maybelline advertisements have been rotated through, one after the other. A fashion show is quite obviously a great place to attract the attention of women who are interested in wearing makeup. Advertisers have also taken advantage of the "down time" between shows. Advertisements have been running as still-frame and live commercials. This way, the live streamed show is non-stop action.
A new article from Mashable posted recently talks about how big of an impact new social media is playing on this years Fashion Week. This article raises interesting facts about social media and how it has made Fashion Week both more accessible to the public and more competitive for advertisers.
I never thought I would be writing a blog about Fashion Week in New York! However, the links and video here are interesting nonetheless. Enjoy....
You did a good job establishing your point right away. Also, a good job incorporating in sources and explaining how advertisements are being used in different ways.
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is a really nit-picky note: I’ve learned in my web design classes that it’s bad practice to have the linked words say “this link” because of accessibility issues—apparently lots of people use screen readers or set their browsers to pick out just the links and so the underlined words are supposed to be descriptive of what they lead to. Not that this really pertains to our class, but it’s something to keep in mind.
One more comment on improvement—for some of the links, especially the very last one, I think they could be explained a bit more. You don’t want to completely repeat the information on the links, but could say “the article raises interesting fact, such as__________”
Nice entry though! I thought it was pretty interesting! And way to just go for it and write about Fashion Week! ;)
Very interesting article, I enjoyed reading it and learning about fashion week. Thought it was neat how you incorporated something unique, such as fashion week in NY, and bought it into your blog by linking it to business and social media.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the links in your blog were relevant and added to the topic, but would have liked to see some multimedia such as a picture from the runway or the runway video from YouTube that you mention in your blog. I feel like this blog was a bit ‘bland’ without any visual elements.
I also thought that a little more information about the fashion during fashion week and maybe discussing certain ads that businesses are choosing for fashion week would have added to the entry.
Overall thought that the blog entry was well written and very interesting, keep up the good work!!
I read about (and saw links to) the NY Fashion week on the New York Times - it's interesting to see how the use of social media is permeating more sectors of life.
ReplyDeleteOne nitpick: I'm not familiar with Mashable, and thus I'm not sure weather I should click the link, and if I do, weather I can trust the info on the other side. A little information about the site would be extremely helpful.
I think that it would also be interesting to add a little more about the advertisers work with the show to keep the stream continuous.
For your next posts, why not look at the impact of social media on news organizations, or how Hulu and similar sites have affected television show producers.
This is very interesting, and the use of the NY Fashion week was unexpected, but still good.
